Product Description

Molasses is a thick dark brown liquid which is the by-product of the sugar refining industry. Molasses is known to have a high sugar content and a low protein content. Molasses is also known to have excellent palatability for all classes of livestock.

  • To stimulate appetite at any stage of the lactating season, in particular around calving when cows are trying to reach peak production.
  • To encourage higher intakes of feeds, either via the milking shed and/or/TMR/mixer wagons, or to increase intakes of silage or wholecrop if quality is poor.
  • To act as a palatable food source when training animals onto other feeds.
  • Virtually no wastage when feeding.
  • To train animals onto new or unfamiliar surroundings such as encouraging heifers into the milking shed for the first time.

 

Molasses also helps with rumen digestion which is important for either a grass based diet or when feeding high dry matter feeds such as dairy meals, grains, hay etc. When feeding molasses the cow can use the energy obtained from molasses for production and/or for maintenance.
